Care For Women’s Health

The Antenatal Clinic

The practice has a full antenatal and postnatal service provided by our midwives.

Your care will be shared between the midwife, the doctor and the hospital.

The antenatal clinics are held on Tuesdays from 09:00.

Your first appointment needs to be booked through the reception then the midwife will arrange any future appointments with you.

Family Planning Services

The doctors and nurse provide advice on all types of family planning.

For emergency contraception advice you need to see a doctor as soon as possible.

If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a contraceptive pill review please complete our form.

Cervical Smears

All women between 25 and 50 should have a cervical smear test every three years. Between the age of 50 and 65 you will have a cervical smear test every five years.

You will get a letter reminding you when your smear test is due.

You should make your appointment to see the practice nurse about halfway between periods.

Child Health Development

The practice works with the health visitors to provide child health development checks. All children under school age have regular reviews. You will get a letter inviting you to attend for the child development checks.

You will have a chance to meet the health visitors and have a chat about any concerns you may have. It also gives you a chance for the Health Visitor to keep a check on your baby e.g. weight, feeding etc.

Childhood Immunisations

Babies have their immunisations at two, three and four months to protect from whooping cough, tetanus, diphtheria, polio, HIB meningitis.

We also offer booster immunisations to pre-school children and 15 year olds.

Babies have their first immunisation at two months with the doctor when at the same time the doctor will carry out mum’s post-natal check.

An appointment then needs to be made for baby’s second immunisations with the practice nurse.

Chronic Conditions

Asthma or COPD

If you have Asthma or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) we will regularly monitor your care and help you to improve the way you manage your condition yourself.

You will be offered a review every year with the practice nurse.

The practice nurse will review patients more often as she thinks necessary and will let you know when to make an appointment for.

If you have been advised by the surgery to submit an annual review of your asthma symptoms please complete our form.  If your symptoms are deteriorating or you are having any concerns please make an appointment with our nurse.

If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a COPD assessment please complete our form. 

Blood Pressure Checks

If you are on medication to control your blood pressure you will be asked to come for frequent checks.

You will be told who to book your appointment with, either doctor or practice nurse.

If you have been advised by the surgery to submit your blood pressure readings on a regular basis please use our form.

Diabetes

We aim to achieve good control of diabetes and prevent complications by providing regular check-ups and education.

If you have diabetes you will be asked to attend for a yearly review but our practice nurse will see you more frequently if she thinks it necessary and will let you know when to make your next appointment for.

Heart Disease

If you have angina or have had a heart attack we will offer you an appointment for a review every year.

We will review your conditions, give you the best treatments and lower your ‘risk factors’ to prevent further illness.

Stroke

If you have had a stroke or mini stroke we will offer you an appointment for a review every year.

We will review your condition and treatment and lower your ‘risk factors’ to prevent further illness.

Appointments need to be made with the practice nurse.

Extra Services

Smoking Cessation Clinic

Appointments can be made with the practice nurse to help with stopping smoking or there are local clinics taking place.
